Route description
When we say Letea we think of wild horses, for sure, but this place is a real spectacle of nature. Not only are the horses in Letea the key to this patch of land, but the whole atmosphere there seems detached from another world. It is worth exploring the northernmost subtropical forest in the world on a leisurely stroll. Yes, you read that right. Nature makes us a great gift and you can admire such an unusual landscape in our country.
Letea is a dynamic land. You are amazed to see the shift between desert with sand dunes and subtropical forest with vines, wild vines, hops or hornbeam. The vines spread all over the forest and give you the feeling of a jungle. In the spring, you can see carpets of orchids and wild horses grazing quietly. But every season comes with a picture of contrasts and colors perfect for memorable photos. That's why photographers are overwhelmed by how many sources of inspiration are here. There is nothing more spectacular than a herd of wild horses galloping across the sand dunes.
But why are there sand dunes in Letea? About 6,000 years ago, the sea was here. It retreated and the sand dunes remained, as traces of the time that passed here. To be even more amazed by these mysterious dunes, you will find out that there is a plant called the sea grape that has adapted to the environment and grows on dunes. At the end of June it makes red fruits similar to blackberries, but with a melon taste. And the whole landscape becomes colorful thanks to these purple and very tasty fruits.
But an even tastier story are the fish dishes made by the locals themselves. The famous fish soup, the delicious plachia and brine, will delight your tastes. Therefore, Letea is waiting for you with open arms.
